Dear Graduate Schools:
As I start gathering my stuff together for graduate school applications, I CAN'T START MY PERSONAL STATEMENT! ugh. Here's how the scenario goes...
Carissa opens a word document. Carissa checks email before starting. Carissa closes word document.
The weird part is.. I of all people know what I want to say about myself, what my goals are, and why I should be going to graduate school. BUT WHY CAN'T I WRITE IT!? ugh. I've never experienced "writers block" but it's at times like these I'm glad I didn't choose a profession in journalism.
Right now my letter really should say something along these lines:
Dear Graduate Schools:
You ask: Who are you? Why have you chosen to pursue an education and career in your field? What qualifies you for graduate school? My responses to these questions: YOU GUYS ARE RIDICULOUSLY VAGUE! JUST INTERVIEW ME!
With all Sincerity,
Carissa M. Lopez
hahahaha ok not really but I'm glad I got to vent a smidge bit.

Heroic Management
It wouldn't be MY blog unless I blogged about the history that took place today. With the inauguration and politics in the air, i couldn't help but remind America....
"When everybody agrees something must be wrong" (as stated by my favorite UCD professor).
For some of us, today was a great day; for others today was spent with grumbles under their breaths (we all know this wasn't me of course) lol Regardless, Americans hold an ideal in what's called "heroic management"--the idea that one man/woman can make a difference. But I can't help but remind America of the false notions behind this. While yes, one individual CAN make a difference but the greatest differences are made by groups/communities. Let's take hold of this new change and be willing to organize together and take responsibility for our country. Why must we always search for the absence of something? Instead, I'm ready to make a difference--not as an individual but as a community. So I ask you--which of your communities are you ready to make a difference?

Toto back to Kansas we go.

I'm clicking my red sparkly heels saying "There's no place like home. There's no place like home" (while thinking of my Davis apartment) =) Today I make my journey back to my little domain in Davis, Ca.

Bakersfield Life Lesson #1
Once you move away from home, it's difficult to come back...College and adulthood change things. I learned tonight that I'm not sure I could move back home (if I did I would definitely have my own place again). This Christmas I'm thankful/frustrated at the same time for adulthood and mothers learning to let go--even if I have been gone for 3 years now :)
